Minister of State Office of the Vice President (Union and Environment) Hon. Dr. Ashatu Kijaji has visited and inspected the waste processing project for the production of natural fertilizers located in Mabwepwande in the Kinondoni District in the Dar es Salaam region today September 13, 2024.

Speaking during the visit, he said that the project will help to take care of the environment as the community will have the opportunity to collect waste and direct it to the factory and prevent it from being dumped.

Among other things, Hon. Dr. Kijaji has asked the Kinondoni Municipality that runs the project to cooperate with private sector stakeholders in the operation of the factory.

Minister Dr. Kijaji has asked them to create infrastructure for citizens to separate waste when they take it to the project to be processed and turned into fertilizer

He said that cooperating with the stakeholders will help increase the efficiency of the work of collecting waste and that the area of the factory is large and has not yet been used as required.

Minister Dr. Kijaji has directed the municipality to improve the environment of the waste collection area for processing and turning it into natural fertilizer to be friendly to the workers.

Along with that, he has also directed that the workers of the factory be provided with equipment (mask) to protect themselves from the air generated by the waste collected there to protect their health.

On his part, the Deputy Secretary General (Environment) Mrs. Christina Mndeme has called to expand the scope of the project whether it is to collect more waste and produce other products other than fertilizer.

He said that they need more waste to become property instead of ending up in landfills because the production of waste in the city is greater than what is sent to the project.

He said this when he made a visit to inspect the waste processing project for natural fertilizer located in Mabwepwande in Kinondoni District in Dar es Salaam region today September 13, 2024.

The natural fertilizer project is implemented with the funding of the City of Hamburg in Germany, which entered into an agreement with the Government of Tanzania for an amount of more than 4 billion shillings.

During the visit, Minister Kijaji was accompanied by Deputy Secretary General Mndeme, Director of the National Carbon Monitoring Center (NCMC) Prof. Eliakim Zahabu and Chief Environmental Officer Office of the Vice President Dr. Kanizio Manyika.
