Deputy Minister Office of the Vice President (Union and Environment) Hon. Khamis Hamza Khamis has said that the Project to Endure Climate Change Using Rural Ecosystems (EBARR) has reached 95 percent of its implementation on the part of Zanzibar.
He said this today November 06, 2024 in the parliament in Dodoma when answering the question of the Member of Parliament for Special Seats Hon. Tamima Haji Abass who wanted to know about the implementation of the project in the North District, Unguja.
Continuing to answer that question, Hon. Khamis said a total of 1.4 billion shillings have been used to carry out various activities including the preparation of the Land Use Plan in Matemwe Kijini, Mbuyutende and Jugakuu Districts including the excavation and construction of six wells and the construction of three greenhouses for vegetable farming.
He has mentioned other activities as the purchase of six modern boats and fishing equipment, the construction of three breeding centers, the production of soap and sewing, the purchase of 42 vehicles for fishing groups.
Also, he has explained that the EBARR Project coordinated by the Office of the Vice President, in the case of the North 'A' district, has achieved the purchase of 200 beehives and the construction of bee houses (manzuki), entrepreneurship training for all groups, the establishment of nurseries for 56,000 tree saplings and the production of stoves for 125 households.
In addition, Deputy Minister Khamis has said that the project and other projects are being monitored to see if it is being implemented effectively and the people are benefiting from it.
Answering the additional question of Hon. Tamima who wanted to know what plan the Government has to ensure projects are monitored, benefits the citizens, Hon. Khamis has said that the Office of the Vice President is using the link officers present in the council and environmental officers of the districts and regions in the follow-up.
In the same way, he said that through the visits of leaders, especially the Standing Committees of the Parliament in charge of the Environment and leaders from the Office of the Vice President, the monitoring of the effectiveness of projects is done.
It should be noted that the EBARR Project is being implemented in the districts of Mvomero (Morogoro), Simanjiro (Manyara), Kishapu (Shinyanga), Mpwapwa (Dodoma) in mainland Tanzania and North A - Unguja, on the Zanzibar side. The project is coordinated by the Office of the Vice President, United Republic of Tanzania and the Office of the First Vice President, Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.
